What is the function of a car air flow meter
The main function of the air flow meter is to monitor the amount of air intake into the engine, converting the air intake information into an electrical signal, which is then transmitted to the electronic control unit. The electronic control unit then receives the signal and decides on the amount of fuel to be injected into the engine.
If the air flow meter is in an abnormal condition, it will not cause the engine to fail to start, but it will have an effect on the engine's power performance. The air flow meter is usually damaged because of the use of poor quality air filters, or because the air filter has not been replaced for a long time, thus causing the air flow meter hot wire to accumulate a lot of dust, resulting in abnormal changes in resistance values.
In order to ensure that the vehicle is in a normal condition and that the ideal mixture is obtained, the air flow meter needs to make an accurate judgement of the amount of air drawn into the engine at each instant, which serves as the main basis for the electronic control unit to calculate and control the amount of fuel injected into the engine.
